I love to read but I struggle to get all the value that I believe is in the books I read. Since leaving university (many moons ago now), I got out of the habit of making notes in margins and liberally sprinkling my brain-detritus throughout sacred printed materials. (There's something about the printed page that does seem sacred to me, like it shouldn't be tarnished by my scrawl or ill-formed immediate impressions of whatever I'm reading.) Slacker Manager has just given me a kick up the arse, however, with an excellent reminder on how to read a book and get all the value from it. Don't hesitate to write all over the book, says Bren, because those notes will be a personal resource for the long-term, not just the next couple of days or however long it takes for you to forget what you've read. Well, the post certainly made me feel a lot better...! (Via PersonalMBA.com)
